PRE-BUILT WU-BLAST EXECUTABLES The blastapp.PLATFORM.tar.Z archives contain pre-built WU-BLAST executables for a variety of computing platforms. Find your platform in the list of platform definitions below and transfer the corresponding archive to your host (using BINARY file transfer mode). To unpack the executables in your current working directory, execute the command: zcat blastapp.PLATFORM.tar | tar xvf - PLATFORM Definitions ---------------------------------- irix6-r8k* SGI IRIX 6.0.1, MIPS R8000 processor irix5.3* SGI IRIX 5.3, MIPS R3000 processor osf1-3.2* Digital OSF/1 3.2, Alpha processor sol2.5-x86* Sun Solaris 2.5, Intel x86 (386, 486, Pentium...) processor sol2.5-sparc* Sun Solaris 2.5, SPARC processor sol2.5-ultra* Sun Solaris 2.5, UltraSPARC processor linux Linux (Red Hat 1.2.13), Intel x86 processor *The BLASTP, BLASTN, BLASTX, TBLASTN, and TBLASTX executables for these platforms were built to use threads/multiprocessing (the so-called "MP" versions of the BLAST programs). The MP versions will employ as many CPUs as are in the box you run them on, yet the efficiency of processor utilization is high (often >90%) for modest to large queries. It is fine to run the MP versions on computer systems containing only one processor.
