This is a preliminary version of a BLAST function library upon which the BLAST
version 1.4 application programs are built.  Source code for the higher-level
BLAST application programs is beneath the "blastapp" directory.

Before this BLAST function library (and then the BLAST application programs
themselves) can be built, the NCBI Toolbox ("ncbi") and "gish"libraries must
have been built.

NOTE:  an ANSI compliant C compiler is REQUIRED to build this software,
e.g. the GNU C compiler gcc.
